Ever since I can remember being old enough to do my hair I have enjoyed trying new products and experimenting with hair techniques. If we were walking down a hair-care aisle I have tried almost one of something in every brand represented. It’s kind of become a hobby and I just love finding great products that work!
When it comes to major purchases, say a vehicle, you usually get what you pay for. I’ve discovered this is not always the case with hair-care products. Honestly, you don’t have to spend $20 on hair care products to have gorgeous hair.
Shampoo & Conditioner – One of my least favorite shampoo and conditioner combos is Tresemme’. It leaves my hair feeling very heavy, filmy and greasy. So what’s a good alternative? Sally’s Generic Brand. There’s an option for every hair type and at around $7 a bottle it doesn’t break the bank. Right now I use the Hydrating Shampoo but I have also used the volumizing line and both have exceeded my expectations.

Dry Shampoo – According to the blogosphere Batiste is a beloved dry shampoo brand, so I gave it a try. My conclusion? Not for me and probably not for you either. I tried the brown tinted version for brunettes since sometimes the white dry shampoo is hard to work into my almost black hair. The brown color of the spray got all over my bathroom, forehead, neck and my hands not only while applying it but throughout the day as well if I touched my hair. I recommend Suave Refresh & Revive Dry Shampoo. Suave? Yes, Suave. I’ve tried many other brands and the $3 Suave dry shampoo is my favorite. It easily absorbs into my dark hair and always gives me another day or two of volumized locks.

Flexible Hairspray – Through Pinterest exploration I saw rave reviews for Not Your Mother’s brand. Although it was touchable it hardly held my style which is very disappointing if you’ve spent any time at all fixing your hair. My favorite touchable hold hairspray is Marc Anthony True Professional Oil of Morocco Argan Oil Hairspray. It’s a mouthful, but it’s worth it. This hairspray is wonderful for any style but it was especially stellar for braids. It holds hair in place while adding an oh so pretty shine without making it sticky or gunky.

Those are a few of my favorites. When it comes to hair care the only way to make discoveries is through trial and error, so be brave! Try out a new hairspray or shampoo. The results just might surprise you!
