Every trial and stage in life requires us to have a degree of patience.
How many times have we thought we could not bear the pain any longer, carry a load no further, or hold life together no more?
I’ve been there!
But Jesus is an on-time God, whose timing is always right, never too early or too late. Some days it certainly may feel as if we’re not on His schedule or clock at all, but the Bible lets us know that He is always concerned with the desires of our hearts. At times the waiting will only make us realize that what we were waiting for wasn’t what we needed. Other times, waiting will make us appreciate what we get a hundred times more!
Read on for 5 reasons to trust God’s timing:
1. When we remain hopeful, in spite of our waiting period, God rewards us with renewed strength.
Perhaps we witness His amazing work in another’s life and it renews our hope for what he can do in us. We can fly above the impatience and keep moving ahead of our worry, as long as we continue to wait on God to do His work in us.
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
{Isaiah 40:31}
2. Even the disciples had so many questions for Jesus!
While He did answer many of their questions, He also told them that there were some things they just didn’t need to know. Even for us, there are things we may question God about, that we may never receive an answer for. When we ultimately trust in God, no amount of knowledge can replace the faith we receive.
And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
{Acts 1:7}
3. There are times when we are quick to want to rush a season or a time in life where things are not going well or are not particularly easy.
Difficult seasons are fun for no one, but sometimes the most important lessons we learn are taught to us by experiencing these very things. Jesus is never holding you to a certain season just to keep you waiting, he is keeping you there to develop your patience and prepare you for the upcoming seasons in life.
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.
{Ecclesiastes 3:1}
4. Trusting Gods timing can be a scary thing for us to do completely, because it means that we are not in control.
It leaves us with a sense of insecurity if we are unsure of the what, where, when, and how of a situation. However, when we turn over the reins to God and allow Him to lead us, nothing can go wrong. The concept of staying on God’s time requires us to trust Him and simply follow.
But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
{2 Peter 3:1}
5. The feeling of longing that never truly goes away is the empty spot that only Jesus can fill.
This is our reminder that we are not yet home, and that this world is certainly not our home. Our souls yearn to be with our Creator. Throughout our lives journey we grow into who He has created us to be, seeking to follow His will, and therefore find our truest version of our self in Him. Oh what a day it will be, when my Jesus I shall see!
He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
{Ecclesiastes 3:11}
