5 Songs for Your Easter Playlist

March 19, 2015

The past few months have passed swiftly (for me, anyway). And suddenly, Easter is less than a month away! Easter is one of the most meaningful holidays to us as we celebrate Christ’s resurrection and the price He paid on Calvary. Because He lives, we can truly have life, and life more abundantly.

Around this time each year, I like to listen to uplifting music that  declares the sacrifice Jesus gave for us. I wanted to share a few of current favorites here on the blog. I must admit, it was hard to narrow it down to only five. Some are newer, and others not-so-new, but they all share the same wonderful message of triumph in Him!

1. The Anthem | (Planetshakers)

This song is just that–an anthem: it boldly proclaims the victory that Jesus won for us, and that really speaks to me.

Death could not hold you down
You are the risen king
Seated in majesty
You are the risen king.

2. The Old Rugged Cross | (Hymn)

Although this song was penned many years ago, the message that it share is timeless! A number of artists have recorded it, but I especially love the upbeat cover by Selah.

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame,
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.

3. The Blood Will Never Lose It’s Power | (Andrae Crouch)

This gospel song is what I call “an oldie-but-goodie.” It reminds us that His blood still has the power to cleanse our sin. Every time I hear (or sing) this song, I am filled with gratitude! Check out this version.

The blood that Jesus shed for me
Way back on Calvary
The blood that gives me strength
From day to day
It will never lose its power.

4. How Can It Be | (Lauren Daigle)

I first heard this contemporary song a few months ago and it connected with me instantly. It expresses our wonder at God’s love and forgiveness!

You gave your life to give me mine
You say that I am free
How can it be, how can it be?

5. Forever | (Kari Jobe)

This song of praise and worship speaks of the Lamb of God overcoming for us, and reigning forever more. He has overcome!

Forever, He is glorified
Forever, He is lifted high
Forever, He is risen!
He is alive
