A Beautiful Story: Trusting the One Who Writes Perfect Endings
August 22, 2025 · by Sara Nichols
For my husband Christopher and me, today is not just any other day. Because today, we are celebrating 5 years of marriage, though we joke it feels more like 15…in a good way!
The last 5 years have been filled with joy and sorrow, laughter and tears, hardships and blessings—the part in the vows that go “for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health.” My husband and I have seen God do incredible things in our relationship and family. We’ve literally been in the middle of miracles and would’ve fallen apart without each other.
But the beginning of our story is a miracle in and of itself. It is a testament of God’s faithfulness—that when you wait on Him and trust in Him, He will fulfill every prayer and desire of your heart. It is a story that I want to share with you today. If you find yourself in a season of waiting, let this story encourage and strengthen your faith that God always keeps his promises.
The end of 2018 found me a single girl of 26 with no prospects in the romance arena. I had never dated or talked to a guy seriously, and my quiet, introverted personality seemed to make finding a partner impossible. I thought something must be wrong with me and I would remain single forever.
Then a dear friend sent me a podcast episode titled, “A Beautiful Story” by Christian singer and songwriter Mia Fields. I listened to a woman with a narrative similar to mine give a testimony of how God custom-made her perfect match. How everything she had ever wanted in a partner was fulfilled after years of waiting. How she began to take God at His word and look for the evidence of His plan working in every thing she did or saw, documenting her faith and the evidence of God’s promises, writing them down daily. By the end, she had received exactly what she prayed for, down to the tiniest detail. By the end, I was weeping.
Encouraged and challenged, I entered 2019 determined to practice this kind of unshakeable faith, believing that by the end of that year I would have met my future husband. I started my own journal, writing about my perfect match daily—what he might look like, his characteristics, and when we would meet. My faith became intentional. I trained myself to look for God’s fingerprints in everyday moments, trusting that He would answer when the timing was right.
Halfway through the year, Christopher’s name came to my attention through a mutual friend. To my surprise, we had been Facebook friends for 10 years! Though never having met in person, we had grown up in the same area and we attended many of the same events as teens. I became interested and intrigued. Too many “coincidences” (though with God, I’m not sure coincidences exist) kept appearing that pointed to him as someone I should pay close attention to.
Weeks later, at a church conference, another friend mentioned his name out of the blue. I was stunned—this was the second person to bring him up! We didn’t meet that night, but I prayed if he was the one God intended for me, that he would reach out. Soon after, he requested to follow me on Instagram and the rest is, as they say, history!
From that moment, I joyfully watched God’s plan unfold. We communicated, met in person, began dating, and by the end of 2019, my original faith statement, the first words I ever recorded in my journal, was fulfilled—I was engaged to my best friend, my soulmate, my perfect match. He was and continues to be the answer to every one of my prayers. We married on August 22, 2020 and now have a beautiful, miracle boy and another on the way.
Psalms 37:4 (AMP) tells us, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and petitions of your heart.” When our joy and trust is rooted in Him, not in our timeline or our own striving, He reshapes our desires to align with His will, then fulfills them in ways far greater than we could imagine.
My love story with Christopher is a testimony that God’s timing is never late, His plans are perfect, and His promises never fail. What He began in my journal pages, He completed in my life —far more beautifully that I could have ever written for myself. But what is your story? What are you believing God for today?
If you are in a season of waiting, whether for a spouse, a child, healing, or breakthrough, remember this: Jesus is writing a story for YOU that is more beautiful and perfect than you can imagine. He holds every chapter of your life in His hands. Your waiting is not wasted; it is preparation. Hold onto His promises, delight in Him, and trust that the Author of your story has already written the perfect ending. And it is always worth the wait.
