Destiny, thank you for taking time to share your wedding with our readers! First, how would you describe your wedding decor theme?
Our wedding had a very classic/traditional theme. We wanted to keep things very simple, and our venue really helped us accomplish that. The one thing we loved about having an outdoor ceremony was that we didn’t have to do a ton of decorating to make it a beautiful setting. The venue was gorgeous all on its own, and we built our theme around that.
What are some of your favorite or most special memories of your wedding day?
Seeing each other for the first time was the most special moment for me. We had decided not to see each other at all until the ceremony, so you can imagine the anticipation I was feeling. I can remember the moments leading up to walking down the aisle. My heart was racing and I was so anxious. The moment I saw his face with tears in his eyes, there are no words to describe the amount of love I felt in that moment.
Were there any funny moments or things that didn't go according to plan?
During the ceremony, one of our guest's car alarms went off for about 30 seconds. This was definitely something that we didn’t anticipate, and at the time it was a bit frustrating. Thankfully, in the end it just ended up being a funny story we all still laugh about.
How did you find the perfect wedding dress?
I actually ordered my wedding dress online prior to ever having seen it in person, let alone trying it on. It is made by the brand BHLDN. I had always admired their dresses, and when one in particular went on sale, then on final sale, I knew. I had to get it and just seriously hoped I would love it just as much in person. I had not previously tried on any dresses and actually wasn’t yet engaged when purchasing it. But we had been talking about marriage very seriously at this point, and I didn’t feel it was too premature to buy my dream dress. Long story short, it came in the mail, it was more beautiful than I could have imagined, and it fit perfectly. We were engaged one month later.
Any advice you have for future brides?
Don’t forget the reason you’re getting married. One thing I had to stop and remind myself of was not to get so caught up in the planning that I lost sight of what was most important. At the end of the day, it won’t matter what color tablecloths you chose. What matters is the love that you both share for each other.
It is your wedding and no one else’s. So ultimately, do what you love.
Enjoy the process as much as you can. It is normal to feel overwhelmed. Just remember, it only happens once, and it’ll all be worth it in the end.
Anything else in particular that you'd like to share about your wedding or your love story?
Being married has been the absolute most beautiful and joyous experience. It truly makes a difference when you wait for the right one. I can’t express how much more you love the person you have committed your life to once you live your daily lives side by side. I didn’t get married until age 27, and although the waiting wasn’t easy, I would do it all over again to end up where I am now.
