A Playlist for the 4th of July

July 04, 2016

I love the 4th of July, and what’s a holiday without the perfect playlist?

I love the fireworks. I love the American flag. I love the story of Betsy Ross. I’ve always had a bit of a crush on Paul Revere. And that portrait of Washington crossing the Delaware? That painting makes me proud to be an American — every single time.

The National Anthem? There’s nothing that makes my heart swell with pride more.

Those obnoxiously loud parades with the brass bands of musicians dressed for 40 below instead of 95℉ + 100% humidity — I love ’em (complete with Krispy Kreme, of course).

And while it’s all great, it’s actually not so much the picnics, the family time, or the lake that make this holiday so special in my heart as much as it is the memories of July 4th holidays that have already past — the ones that I’ve experienced and the ones way before me.

Because this holiday is all about freedom. It’s about the freedom to be who we are, the freedom to exist, the freedom to believe, the freedom to have opinions and plans and dreams.

And most of all, it’s about the freedom to worship.

So whether you’re an American or from another lovely country, today, on the day of my country’s birth, I celebrate her: I celebrate America, Americans, and freedom everywhere.

This weekend, join us in celebrating Freedom with this 4th of July playlist to whatever your day holds: a road trip, a day on the water, shooting off fireworks, and living this sweet American Dream!
