As Good as New

April 14, 2015

I was given an oversized, retro chair several years ago — I loved it! As a 16-year-old, the yellow fabric matched the bright and funky décor of my room. However, when gave my room a complete facelift later, it suddenly clashed with every aspect of my more subdued, neutral color scheme.

I really loved this piece and did not want to get rid of it, so my mom suggested that I have it professionally recovered. If you read my post from last week, you already are aware of my love of leopard — so when I found this heavy fabric at a craft and sewing store I knew it was perfect for what I had in mind.

However, when we got the chair back from being reupholstered, it looked so nice in our family room that I ended up proposing that we put it there for the time being. My dog loves it as much as the rest of the family!

I’ve come across several Pinterest and Instagram accounts that have inspired me with more ways to redesign furniture. The possibilities really are endless. Why, it could take nothing more than a bit of paint to completely transform a piece!

Are you looking for a penny-wise alternative to new furniture? Perhaps you have your own pieces that need a makeover?  I’m sure those of you with a knack for craftiness would even enjoy doing the project yourselves. Thrift stores and yard sales are also great for finding pieces that need a little jazzing up!

A few months ago AshLee shared how she reupholstered an ottoman as a DIY project here and gives step-by-step instructions if you want to try it!

Have you ever completed a similar project? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below!
