Back-to-School Prayers for Your Child

As a mother, our highest priority is to pray for our children. We want to see our children thrive in their lives and in their schools. We teach our children at home and pray that when they go out into the world that those teachings will stay ingrained in their hearts and minds. Here are prayers that we can pray to cover our children while they are at school, along with scriptures to back those prayers up. I am a firm believer in praying scriptures over our children!

1. A prayer for God's plan for your child:

“In the Name of Jesus, I speak to
low self-esteem and ungratefulness to have no
hold on my children. Peer pressure will not
cause them to waiver from your standards of
holiness. Guilt, envy, and shame will be cast
into the sea, and every plan that you have for
my children will be completed.”

Scripture reference in the Bible:

Mark 11:22-24

22. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.

23. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

24. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Philippians 4:19

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

2. A prayer for your child to resist the devil:

“Lord, teach my children who the enemy is and how
to resist him victoriously. I pray that they will humbly
submit to you and resist the devil, knowing they will defeat
him. I pray they will not entertain Satan’s lies in their
thoughts nor be caught by his snares. I pray that they
will receive your strength and power for every spiritual
battle. They shall be victorious.”

Scripture reference in the Bible:

2 Corinthians 2:11

Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

James 4:7

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Ephesians 6:10

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the LORD, and in the power of his might.

3. A prayer for your child's mind:

“Keep my childrens' minds ever renewed by your
word and they will know the truth. May they base
their lives on your truth instead of Satan’s lies, so that
they will experience all the freedom that Jesus died on
the cross to give them. I pray that they will set their
thoughts on what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely,
admirable, excellent, and worthy of praise.“

Scripture reference in the Bible:

John 8:32

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Romans 12:2

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

4. A prayer for your child's future friend:

“Lord, grant my children healthy,

edifying, satisfying, wise friendships. I pray

that they will develop friendships based on the

direction from you to righteous champions.

Give friends who are true, wholesome, and

mutually encouraging. Give them wisdom in

choosing relationships that will honor you.“

Scripture reference in the Bible:

Romans 13:1

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

Ephesians 6:1-3

1. Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)

3. That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

5. A prayer for the Lord to guide your child:

“Lord, guide my children so that they grow

mature in you. I pray that they will be built

solidly on the foundation of Jesus and grow in

your grace with a conscious sense of your presence.

May they continue to be built up with your

wisdom, favor, truth, love, life, faith, strength, and

thankfulness.“

Scripture reference in the Bible:

Luke 2:52

And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.

Ephesians 4:15

But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

Colossians 2:6-7

6. As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the LORD, so walk ye in him: 7. Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

6. A prayer for protection over your child:

“Protect my children by the covering of the blood of

Jesus. I pray that they will know the power of the

blood to defeat all the works of the devil. By that

power, bind the enemy from interfering with your perfect

will in their lives.“

Scripture reference in the Bible:

John 17:14

I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

1 John 4:4

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
