Bohemian Nursery Tour

April 10, 2019

My husband and I are expecting our first child this month – a little girl! We are so excited for this new addition to our little family, and we have been working hard to prepare a special space just for her. While you may not be looking to decorate a nursery, I thought you could still find a little bit of style inspiration from our décor ?

I try to avoid decorating rooms in one set theme. I like to incorporate a variety of elements so that it doesn’t become overwhelmingly matchy-matchy. I love an eclectic look! I would describe this room as bohemian with a few traditional elements – and lots of elephants!

I am a neutral girl through and through, but this is a child’s room, so I thought a splash of color was necessary. I’ve had my heart set on grid wall for the longest time, and my husband created one and we painted it this rich red color. I’m so pleased with how it turned out! It adds a bit of texture and color to the otherwise simple walls.

The rocking chair was given to us from my husband’s grandmother, and the tassel pillow ties this otherwise traditional piece right in. The elephant canvas is from Home Goods (which you’ll soon realize is one of my favorite places!) and the light is a $5 Wal-Mart find.

One of my biggest tips for decorating a space: don’t buy everything new; shop your own house first! I swap items from room to room in my home regularly! One month these throw pillows might be in my bay window, the next month you’ll find them in the guest bedroom. Swapping not only freshens up the space, it saves on money and clutter in the long run!

I bought this dresser from Home Goods a few years ago in college, and it’s the perfect size for a changing table! The wall tapestry is from Target, and it used to hang in our master bedroom. Take a look around your home and see if certain pieces might work better in another space. *Ignore the missing switch cover; we bought all new ones and just need to put them on!

I wanted to make the closet fun, and I found the cutest peel-and-stick metallic wallpaper from Target. It’s fairly easy to apply and really makes an impact! Peel-and-stick is the way to go. We painstakingly removed wallpaper from all four walls in this room, and I don’t recommend setting yourself up for that task! Peep the Dainty Jewell’s dresses on the end – I’m already starting to stock up for when she’s older. ?

My favorite element of the room is this colorful rug from Rugs USA. This is my first purchase from this site, and I highly recommend it; the selection is endless, and the pricing is great! This rug is so soft our pup sneaks in and lies on it any chance he can get! I also love our crib from Wayfair.

We bought this sweet elephant rocker last Easter from Wal-Mart, and I found these adorable planters at Home Goods just a couple of weeks ago. My husband made a couple of shelves, and I decorated them with trinkets from around the house and a few new items like the gold llama bookends from Hobby Lobby.

There are still a few things I want to add to the room, but it will come together in time. Don’t feel like every little detail has to be finished at one given moment. A room should never fully be complete; add and take away elements so that it always feels new and you won’t get bored with it!
