At the dawn of a new year is the hope and intention to become a better person spiritually, physically, and mentally.
As every other year before, I pulled out a notepad and wrote down goals, but this time felt different. There was an urgency I hadn’t felt before when I thought and prayed about where I should shift my focus. It truly feels like time is winding down and there is a draw to consecration to our Lord in a deeper and more intentional way.
So, what is consecration? I found it interesting that consecration is an ONGOING devotion, it’s not something to be acted upon on a whim or when it’s convenient, but it is continued from a deep rooted commitment to stay true and faithful. Wrapped up within consecration is a commitment to keep oneself separated from those things that would be in contradiction to what holds our devotion. Our holy God wants us to be all in and completely devoted to Him. How that can look in our everyday lives is varied, but at the root of our consecration should be a heart and soul that seeks to be in communion with Him, feet and hands that are quick to do His will, eyes steadfast on Him, and a mind that continues to pursue His thoughts and His ways above our own thoughts. Out of all the goals I could have, an intentional commitment of consecration could be the most challenging, but it is the act of consecration to God that casts a beam of light on all other areas of my life. It is upon waves of the abundance of blessing from knowing His mind and heart and walking with Him that all other areas of my life can ride upon. Being consecrated to God is the greatest goal of all.
So, as I finished out my goals for this year, I erased some things that didn’t seem as important as they once did because something has shifted in this world and in my soul. What matters most is to know Him deeper. And as for the rest of my “new year, new me” goals, well, we believe in miracles right? I’ll let you know next year how those pan out.
May you have a blessed year ahead of you,
Hillary Wheeler
