Freedom! Sweet, sweet freedom!
These are the words that I mentally chanted for at least the first hour of the car ride that took me from my last college final towards destination: vacation.
True, Summer equates freedom in many aspects, namely, for me and hopefully for you, from school, but also from any semblance of cold which sadly, for many people means the necessity of brighter colors and fewer pieces of clothing.
Now, I am positively convinced that neither of these things are necessary, mainly because I am too far gone in the love of layering and entirely too obsessed with dark colors to give them up — even for Summer.
So, my solution is to find lightweight pieces in the timeless, deep colors that we all love with a dash of Summer-ish details that allow you to pull off an almost “illegal” amount of darks amid all the brights.
One of my favorite finds this summer is this caplet, black blazer from WhoWhatWear, the cape being that interesting Summer detail that I mentioned. I mean, honestly, who doesn’t want to feel like a superhero and experience the wind making every location an ideal photo op? Also, no one can judge me for wearing a dark blazer in the summertime when the cape and cut-out sleeves act as the ultimate ventilation (#score).
Paired with the caplet, I wore a lightweight, patterned blouse from Target and a deep-green, pleated midi by Zara (they have so many phenomenal skirts right now). Finally, block heels from Zara, the style of which I have been seeing on my Pinterest for an eternity and just had to have a pair, and a bag by Dooney & Burke.
Yes, this outfit is nothing if not dark, but as I didn’t die of heat, I conclude that it is completely possible to wear a few dark colors during one’s bright Summer.
