Let’s be honest girls, we relish a good compliment. But receiving a compliment on a dress that cost next to nothing, well, that my friends is a triumph only a true bargain hunter will understand. Thrift shopping is not for the faint of heart. It requires patience and time, but every once in a while you’ll come across something that makes years of thrifting all worthwhile.
I found my favorite black dress at a Goodwill on half price Wednesday making it $2.50. This dress is modest and beautiful. It’s classic and feminine. I really couldn’t have designed it better myself. So, thank you Miss Seamstress somewhere out there.
When it comes to thrifty finds, it’s all about persistence. So often I’ll hit my go-to stores and come up empty handed, but it’s worth it to check back weekly because thrift stores replenish and receive donations daily.
I paired this dress with a vintage, thrifted leather clutch and silver peep-toe pumps (brand: Paris Hilton). I love how the clutch reemphasizes the pleating on the dress with pleating of its own. On a dress with so much detail like this one, accessories should be complimentary. I love mixing patterns and colors, but this dress calls for simplicity.
If you’re not one to brave a thrift store and possible mothball intoxication, don’t worry! You can still get great deals! I am always finding modest gems at Ross, Marshall’s or TJ Max. If you’d rather shop online in your jammies, a few of my favorite sites are Asos.com, Etsy.com, Ebay.com, Poshmark.com, DaintyJewells.com and ApostolicClothing.com. Online shopping has become a huge part of my wardrobe since becoming a mommy. Taking a toddler out to shop versus shopping on the couch in peace and quite during nap time isn’t a hard choice these days, but the thrill of a possible find keeps me going back out again and again.
