It’s the time of year for travel! While summer vacations have ended and the holidays are coming up, many of us in the church circles are travelling to Fall conferences, youth services and even just “shoulder season” travel for fun (gotta book those cheap flights while they’re available). And besides…it’s fall which is just so beautiful to see in other parts of the country or world! Right? Right.
When it comes to travelling (I myself was on a plane last week), my mind is often drawn to Proverbs 3:5-6, which may not seem like a natural progression of travel. The King James Version reads this way:
It’s the last line of verse 6 that reminds me of travel. We sit in airports and see people going to and fro…but where are they going? Is this stop their ending destination or are they travelling for a few more airports? Do they have a straight path they are following? While we can’t necessary answer these questions, in my research of this verse I came across the Message version which helped clarify my perspective:
Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
he’s the one who will keep you on track.
He will keep you on track. HE will keep you on track. Isn’t that what we all want? We want to travel so that we can discover new worlds and understand new cultures, but in the process, we need to ensure that we are kept on track by the one who has a path already set for us.
Just some food for thought while you let your mind journey with the following links…
Never Lose Sight x Chris Tomlin was released last week and is absolutely as amazing as we always expect from him…perfect worship music!
Just Rise Up!: A Call to Make Jesus Famous x Sarah Francis Martin. I’m currently reading this book and it’s nothing short of incredible! The reminders of why we are called to make Jesus famous and how we can apply that in our everyday lives are simple, but also memorable. “But in God’s kingdom the first will be last, and those who serve Him daily, with humble hearts, will experience real, eternal blessings.”
