It’s almost summertime! A time for water games, ice cream, sidewalk chalk, bubbles and playing outside until dark. I love seeing the fireflies at dusk while my little boy plays to his heart’s content. I love summer and all things that come along with it.
Except…heat,
humidity, and mosquitos! If
you live in the south, you know what I mean.
If you enjoy doing all of these things as well but are having a hard time coming up with some fun activities to do with your kiddos, I’m giving you a few fun summer activities for kids.
I hope that you will find a few things to do from this article that will keep your kids having a blast all summer long and have tons of fun while doing these activities!
It’s time to get outside and have some fun!
Sidewalk Chalk Paint:
The supplies you will need for this fun activity are
- cornstarch
- food coloring
- water
- a muffin pan
- paintbrushes
Making your own sidewalk chalk paint is easy. It only requires a couple of common household ingredients, so pretty much anyone can do it!
Step
1: Start
by mixing together equal amounts of water and cornstarch in a large
bowl or mixing container, and stir until the cornstarch
dissolves.
Note
that it may be a bit difficult to stir the cornstarch and water
mixture at first, but it will get easier as you keep stirring and the
cornstarch begins to dissolve. Add
a little bit more water as necessary to thin the paint.
Step
2: Divide
the paint mixture into equal parts into the wells of a muffin tin or
small bowls.
Step
3: Add
a small amount of food coloring (start with 1-2 drops) to achieve the
desired color. Note
that the colors will dry much lighter on the sidewalk than they
appear in the tin!
Step 4: Go outside and enjoy painting!
Make Ice Cream in a Bag:
This recipe is super simple – just 5 ingredients to make it work – and the kids will have a blast watching their milk mixture turn into ice cream right before their eyes. It’s a great activity for summer camp, birthday parties, and even camping!
Ingredients:
- 4 cups Ice
- 1 cup rock salt
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1 quart sized freezer bag
- 1 gallon freezer bag
Directions:
Add the milk, sugar, and vanilla into the quart sized freezer bag. Seal tightly. Put ice and salt into gallon sized bag and place the milk mixture bag inside. Seal tightly. Now for the fun part! Shake, shake, shake your ice cream...keep shaking!
Continue shaking for 3-4 minutes or until ice cream is firm. Scoop out of the bag and place it in a bowl. Now, you’re going to add some sprinkles or your favorite topping.
Rainbow Slime
Here is what you need:
- 4 oz. Washable Elmer’s Glue
- 1 Tablespoon Saline Solution
- ½ Tablespoon Baking Soda
- Rainbow Sprinkles
Directions:
Step 1: Pour all the glue into a medium-size bowl.
Step
2: Add
½ Tablespoon of baking
soda and
stir. Then add 1 Tablespoon of saline
solution and
mix well. You might have to take it out and knead it for a minute.
Step
3:
Once the saline solution is mixed in, add the sprinkles and fold/mix
in.
Step
4:
It’s ready to play with! After playing with it for a bit, the
sprinkles will dissolve, and you can add more.
Have Fun playing with your homemade rainbow slime!

Glow in the Dark Bowling
Here is what you will need:
- 10 water bottles
- 10 glow sticks in a variety of colors
- Soccer ball
Remove any labels from your water bottles. If water bottles are new and still contain water, pour out a little off the top to allow for the glow stick you’ll be adding.
Crack the glow sticks to activate them and drop one glow stick in each bottle. Replace the lid on the bottle securely.
Line bottles up like bowling pins. The back row should have 4 pins, the next row will have 3, next 2, and 1 at the front.
Set a mark of where the children should bowl from and have fun bowling!
Glow in the Dark Bowling is a fun game that can be played year round and will provide plenty of giggles and smiles.
As you can see…there are plenty of activities that can be done to keep your kiddos occupied during the upcoming summer months. Have FUN!!
