“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Matthew 6:21
Typically, when we talk about food, we're referring to the physical yummy substance we inhale right after a powerful church service (it's not just me, right?). However, when it comes to the matters of our hearts and walk with the Lord, there's a different type of food we consume that affects all aspects of our faith journey.
What content are you ingesting? Years ago, this was challenged by the Lord in a personal way to me that I did not care for. I wanted to be able to watch, read and listen to whatever I wanted without boundaries. Yet, God showed me that anything consumed in isolation will determine my public behavior. The content we consume is important.
The influence of the entertainment industry can cause unrealistic expectations about social interactions and relationships, physical attractiveness and distorted opinions about love. Add in social media and the influence grows. It's not all bad, however, are we feeding ourselves "good food"?
What you invest in, you ingest in. While technology has proven to be a great tool for ministry and digital evangelism, we must be on guard with how it affects us. Be aware of how the content makes you feel and if you find yourself clinging to God or pushing Him away.
Don't let fun contaminate your future fruit. Be diligent in keeping your heart settled on the right things. God has given you the power of free will. I submit to you to take time this next week to fast and pray over the content that entertains you. Reminding yourself that good food leads to good outcomes, and we are here to please a good God.
