We’re excited to add Brittani Scott to the She’s Intentional blogging team! Brittani lives in Seattle, Washington, where she and her husband, Ryan, are planting a church downtown. She’s passionate about music ministry and is honored to lead worship at the Refuge, direct the Washington All-State Youth Choir, and teach piano to a group of amazing students. Brittani and her husband are hoping to grow their family through adoption, and she’s excited to see how God continues to write her their love story.
We caught up with Brittani to let her tell you a little more about herself!
She’s Intentional: How do you spend your typical day?
Brittani Scott: Every day is different! Right now I spend time at a homeless center for women and children on Mondays and Tuesdays, I teach piano lessons on Wednesdays, we have Bible studies Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, I do a lot of writing for my blog and others, and I try to keep my house clean and my husband fed and happy! To be honest, some days I feel overwhelmed, but most days I feel very blessed to be involved in so many fun things!
She’s Intentional: Do you have a mentor in your life who has really inspired you?
Brittani: I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by Godly influences throughout my life. I have a great Apostolic heritage and my mom, grandmothers, and great aunts have all been an inspiration. Outside of my family, Dedie Cooley is a mentor that I highly esteem. Not only do I admire her music ministry and talents, but she is a reflection of Jesus in the way she lives and I hope to someday be like her.
She’s Intentional: What is a scripture that really speaks to you?
Brittani: One of my favorite passages right now is I Corinthians 1:26-19:
For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.
When I’m feeling less than perfect and so very inadequate, these scriptures remind me that I am just what God has in mind for the job I’m doing. He glories in our weakness, and in the end, I will truly be able to step back and say it wasn’t me, it wasn’t my talent or ability, but it had to be God!
She’s Intentional: You released your debut single, “I Will Walk This Road,” in August 2014 and have been writing songs since you were eleven! What would you tell a younger woman who has a passion for music ministry and songwriting?
Brittani: Seek God, perfect your craft, whether it be singing, playing an instrument, writing songs, or leading others, and don’t be distracted by what everyone else is doing. Find a mentor who inspires you and follow her example, ask lots of questions, and be open to receiving her instruction and even correction at times. Most of all, remember that you are called FIRST to be a Christian and a servant.
