In Full Bloom

March 21, 2017

Here in Indiana, and hopefully in your part of the world too, the seasons are beginning to shift.

The sun is staying out later, ponds and lakes are thawing, and everything and everyone is slowly starting to come back to life. We had an unexpected heat wave last month and every sidewalk was filled with people simply enjoying the weather; it was such a beautiful site compared to the otherwise vacant town just a few days prior.

For me, the true sign that spring is here and here to stay, is the wildflowers blooming. Every year it’s a pleasant surprise that seems to happen overnight. My joy is more so than a child waking up to presents galore on Christmas morning. If the wildflowers can bloom and prosper without human care, the Earth has officially awoken from hibernation and greater things are yet to come.

When you take a look around and see all of God’s stunning creations, it is apparent why nature is a recurring theme in the teachings and parables found in the Word. Man did not plant the rain forest, he did not place the coral and algae at the bottom of the ocean and he cannot take credit for the wildflowers that coat mountains. God is responsible for every aspect of nature that we see. He decides whether or not the soil will be prosperous for growth, to what extent the sun will shine, and when and where it will rain.

When nature blooms it is God’s doing and the same can be said of us.

As seeds, some of us may be planted in dead soil but the Lord can send the rain to revive us. Some may be washed away by storms but the Lord can send the sun to provide dry land. Others may be scorched by the sun but the Lord can send the wind to take us to a cool place. We are God’s creations and He wants each of us to bloom and reach our full potential.

For the seed shall be prosperous; the vine shall give her fruit, and the ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew…
{Zechariah} 8:12

Man can only sustain artificial prosperity for so long. True growth and longevity is found in none other but the Lord. He gives us life, provides us with more than we could ever need and He nurtures us to be stronger than we could even hope to be on our own. He is all we truly need to bloom.

Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun.
{Ecclesiastes 11:7}
