This little light of mine–I’m gonna let it shine…Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!
Remember singing this little tune as a child? Yes, it’s simple, but it’s a bold declaration we all should live by, whether we be 5 or 25. I recently attended a ladies conference with the theme Shine On! During this conference we were reminded of what Jesus said in Matthew 5:14-16: “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hidden. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
We are called to be the light of the world. We should endeavor not to blend in, but to stand out. Please, please don’t hide your light from others! Don’t be afraid to break the mold of this world. I know you might feel like a lone candle shining through the darkness…I know it’s not always easy being the only one at your job or school living for God…but you can make a difference. This world needs your light!
I propose that we:
Let our light shine through our words. Speak words that uplift rather than tear down. Compliment, but don’t flatter. Instead of complaining about the negative, rejoice in the positive!
Let our light shine through our actions. A little bit of kindness goes a long way. These seemingly insignificant acts can bring a ray of sunshine into someone else’s day…You can make a difference through something as simple as having patience with the grocery store checker, smiling gas station attendant, or showing the love of Christ to your coworkers. Stan strong for Him!
When we shine, we bring God glory. He is the giver of light, so keep letting him shine through you!
