Living in a Love Letter

February 03, 2025 · by Whitney Gothra

“God spoke today in flowers, and I, who was waiting on words almost missed the conversation.” Ingrid Goff-Maidoff

We were driving down the road, listening to music when a lyric drew the attention of my nine-year-old. "Mommy, what does it mean to ‘look for God'? Isn't He invisible?"

Kids ask the best questions.

What followed was a conversation about how God is all around us, in our every moment, leaving evidence of His goodness and His love for us. He is constantly speaking and revealing and wooing and loving. We just have to notice.

If all the earth sings His praises, and if every created thing bears the fingerprints of the Divine, couldn't He choose to speak to us through His creation? Isn’t He in the sound of your baby’s laughter or the sweet-smelling wind of springtime? Isn’t His power on display in the majestic mountains and His gentleness felt in the falling of quiet snow? Can’t you feel the echoes of His love when you’re caught up in an embrace by a loved one?

It is in Him that we live and move and have our being. (Acts 17:28a) We are living in a love story written by the King with every good and beautiful thing drawing our eyes back to Him.

He didn't have to make sunsets gorgeous, but He did. He didn't have to make each fruit and vegetable produce unique flavors and textures, but He did. He didn't have to create the vast universe and the tiny sand particles and every wonder in between, but He did. He’s wooing us with every beautiful flower, every crashing wave, and every beat of our heart.

He's speaking all around us, showing us glimpses of His divine creativity and His everlasting love. We need only to look and notice.
