July 12, 2021 · by Jennifer Smith

We're excited to welcome Andrea Long to She's Intentional as our new blog editor! Andrea is already one of our writers, but in the coming days, she will be taking on all editing, proofing, and scheduling duties in addition to other miscellaneous blog management tasks.

We wanted to give you a chance to get to know Andrea better, so please take a moment to read her interview, and then hop on over to social media and tell her hello!

Hi, Andrea; thanks for taking a moment to talk with us today! Tell us a little bit about your family.

I’ve been happily married to my wonderful husband for eight years. We have two precious little boys, Clark and Chantry.

Where is your hometown, and how do you spend your days?

We make our home in Houston, Texas, where my husband is from. I’m a registered nurse turned stay-at-home mom. My husband is a preacher and works at our church, our favorite place to be! If we’re not at church, we spend our days at home, being silly and having fun. Between all of that, I teach piano lessons, do piles of laundry, clean up numerous messes, and try to squeeze in a little quiet time when I can. It’s a wonderful life -- truly!

What are some of the best lessons life has taught you?

I’ve found that everything we go through is preparation for the future God has for us. Moses spent forty years in educational and leadership training. Then he spent forty years in the wilderness. Lastly, he spent forty years leading someone else through their wilderness. This is ministry. What we face today will help us help others tomorrow.

Mostly, life with Jesus is the greatest life. An old song says, “He gets sweeter as the days go by.” And He does!

Do you have someone in your life who has really inspired you? A mentor, or someone you look up to?

My mom and mother-in-law are my two heroes! I couldn’t have asked for better moms. They’ve given me a treasure trove of lessons on prayer, ministry, being a lady, motherhood, and life in general.

What are your hobbies?

I love to play the piano and try to fit in time to play daily. I’ve been playing for over 20 years, and there’s nothing so soothing as a good piano worship session with Jesus.

I also enjoy reading. (Andy Andrews, Jan Karon, and Nona Freeman are my current favorite authors.)

Recently, I’ve been enjoying baking bread. We try to eat refined sugar-free and mostly whole grain, so it’s a lot of fun figuring out how to make a recipe to fit our diet.

What is a scripture that really speaks to you?

One of my favorites (and I have many) is Psalm 37:4: “Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” I try to remind myself that I must delight (to become pliable) myself in Him, and He will place His desires within my heart. When I surrender all to Jesus, He becomes my priority and changes my very thought process.
