Can you believe that growing up I thought pennies had no worth? When my parents would give me money as a child it had to be a dollar or more in order for me to feel that I had any money. Silly me! I can't even remember how many times cleaning up my room, the car or sweeping the house I would see pennies in there all mixed up with the trash, and I would rather throw them away than picking them up, because in my head, well, what's a few pennies, right?
A few months ago I began to remember all these things I would do growing up. The days went by and I continued to think about it. It was a time in my life when I was pretty persistent with God about something I had really wanted, and I specifically heard God say to me, "PICK UP YOUR PENNIES". I asked God what He meant, and God began to reveal things to me. He said, Lally, you want this blessing, I will give it to you... but not until you are content with what you have in this season of your life. When you truly appreciate where you are standing and you treasure what I have already given you.
Sometimes we take so much for granted. We take the small good things that happen to us in our day to day for granted. We tend to see the pennies on the floor and think they're not valuable, so why even bother going through the trouble of picking them up and cleaning them. Imagine, if I had picked up all those pennies and had put them in a jar, how much I would have by now!
There is no such thing as a small blessing. There are people who will never have what we think is small. There are some people who would get so much use out of a jar of pennies. They would do anything for what we think is not very valuable to us. Take each blessing, each day, each opportunity and be grateful, embrace what you have in this season, accumulate everything God has given you, and you'll have a treasure full of experiences and lessons learned that will help you get to your next season as a better you. Never forget He knows your heart and what your heart desires.
"and my God will meet all your needs according to his riches of his glory in Christ Jesus" - Philippians 4:19
