I was looking at my calendar recently and had a lump in my throat. Dates and events were filling up quicker than I could blink! It was exciting but also made me stop to think.
Is the Lord okay with what is on my plate? Let me admit, I'm known as a hermit. Give me a quiet room alone with journals, art supplies, the Bible and soft music. That's heaven! Yet I understand the need for community and connection. We're not made to be an island.
Sometimes when we know what is good for us, we jump all in instead of taking intentional steps. This is why planning with God is important to maintaining a healthy life balance. This year as I make a conscience effort to call a friend, schedule meetups, and say "yes" when an invitation is presented, I need to also make sure I'm planning with God. Not ahead of Him.
"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:5-6
My pastor taught this concept recently and it has stuck with me ever since. Plan with God, not ahead of God. These verses in Proverbs might be some of the most quotable verses. We might be even tempted to say them quickly without meditating on the meaning behind them.
We are to trust in the Lord and not our own understanding because we don't know what God knows. In everything I do, I want to make sure I acknowledge Him and allow my path to be directed by His hands. So, when I look at my calendar, it's not just filled just to be full. There's a layout of purpose because the Lord knows the future when I don't.
This year as we continue moving through the different months and seasons, plan with God through prayer and careful consideration. Seek wise counsel if there's any confusion or questions. Remind yourself that while this is your life, there is a God who cares what you do with it, and He is willing to help you plan each moment for His glory and your good.
