We’ve all found ourselves at some point in our lives in a desert place. The place we never thought we would be. A place that is so far removed from the spiritual realm of where you once were or where you would ever choose to be.
But I believe those spiritual deserts are a good thing, at times. It certainly puts us on our knees, doesn’t it? It causes us to seek God with a hunger and thirst inside of us that we never knew existed.
Yet once you finally quench the ravaging thirst with the well of living water…you look back on that desert and thank God you were there. You then realize that there is nothing that can compare. Oh, how powerful a desert can be! Here are 8 beautiful ways that you can praise God who satisfies your thirst.
1. Seek God with an Intense Desire
Psalms
63:1 “God, you are my God; I eagerly seek you.
I thirst for you;
my body faints for you in a land
that is dry, desolate, and
without water.”
When was the last time you had an intense desire to seek after the One who could make you come alive again?
To thirst after Him and feel the fresh coolness of His living water flowing through you? Oh, what a beautiful thing it is to be so eager and thirsty for your God as you search for Him daily.
2. Enter into His Presence
Psalms 63:2 “So I gaze on you in the sanctuary to see your strength and your glory.”
Come into His presence once again and feel His strength rise within you as His glory radiates. Set your sight on God to give you guidance and perfect strength. It’s just you, and it’s just Him. A place where all distractions fade and you can bare your all to the One who loves you beyond all comprehension.
3. Glorify God
Psalms 63:3 “My lips will glorify you because your faithful love is better than life.”
For you to acknowledge and reveal His majesty and splendor is all He ever wants. He loves to hear your worship, even from a broken heart. His faithfulness, His love, His strength, His power - bask in it as you come alive from living so long in a desert place.
4. Lift Hands in Worship
Psalms 63:4 “So I will bless you as long as I live; at your name, I will lift up my hands.”
Now smile, because God has called you out of the place that you were in. He has restored and for that you will forever be grateful. I know you will forever honor, exalt, and adore His Holy Name. I can see it now as you freely lift your hands in worship. The arms and hands that were once so heavy with sin and pain that you couldn’t lift them are now raised in worship at His precious Name. Because of your eagerness to seek Him, He met you right where you were.
5. Praise with Joyful Lips
Psalms 63:5 “You satisfy me as with rich food; my mouth will praise you with joyful lips.”
Where you were once starving for a minuscule feel of His touch, you are now fully fed with the best He has to offer. Your body radiates His glory as you feast in His presence. Your mouth is so full of praise from the well of living water, there is nothing that can stop praise from spilling out.
6. Think Deeply on Him
Psalms 63:6 “When I think of you as I lie on my bed, I meditate on you during the night watches.”
Oh, His presence, His touch; Shekinah glory you cannot get away from. And you don’t ever want to leave. So you lay in bed and meditate on Him. You think of where God has brought you from. You reminisce on the days when you were desolate in despair, and yet, His perfect love for you brought you to the fulfilling place that you are.
7. Have Joy Unspeakable
Psalms 63:7 “Because you are my Helper; I will rejoice in the shadow of your wings.”
You now realize that even though you were in a spiritual desert, He is your ever present help. He is always there to cover you. The happiness, pleasure and joy that you feel as you are covered under the shadow of the wings of the Almighty is something that cannot be explained. Perhaps this is what it feels like to have Joy unspeakable and be full of Glory.
8. Stay Close to God
Psalms 63:8 “I follow close to you; your right hand holds on to me.”
To forever feel the heartbeat of God is where you want to stay. Stay close, never far behind and be ever so thankful for the Hand of God that holds you. He will never let you go. In the good times and in the bad times He will always be there.
I Will Praise God Who Satisfies
Seek God daily! He is truly a God who satisfies that thirst for living water. Ecclesiastes says that seasons come and seasons go. It’s important to understand that being in the desert is only for a season; it’s only for a time, but the Hand of God is forever constant. Don’t ever forget the trials that He has brought you through and remember that He will always meet you where you are, even in the desert place.
