Growing up, Kayla dreamed of a destination wedding in Hawaii. When it came time to tie the knot, Hawaii didn’t turn out to be practical. Kayla did, however, know of a cozy beach spot not far from her grandparents’ home in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Because it involved a drive on the part of both the bride’s and groom’s families (both from Texas), Kayla ended up having somewhat of a mini-destination wedding after all!
Many brides dream of a lovely outdoors wedding, but worrying about whether or not weather will cooperate is always a challenge. During Kayla’s wedding rehearsal the afternoon before the wedding, the beach turned cold and windy. The morning of her wedding, dark, lightning-filled clouds drenched southern Oklahoma and the wedding site with torrents of water.
Much to everyone’s relief, by noon, warm sunshine had soaked up the puddles and dried the beach. The wedding was later that afternoon.
Kayla’s advice for outdoors weddings?
“Pray! No matter what they say is the ‘perfect month’ for an outdoor wedding, there is always something that could go wrong. Have an indoor-venue backup plan in the unfortunate event that the weather does not cooperate.”
Kayla had a gorgeous, budget-friendly wedding by enlisting the help of family and friends. She made sure there weren’t any special rules or restrictions for having her wedding at the lake. Her soon-to-be sister-in-law made the flower arrangements and boutonnières. Friends provided live music, and family put up most of the decorations. As a beautiful, last-minute special touch, an aunt secured a horse for the entrance of the bride.
