Summer Sensory Bin with DIY Sand Dough

July 07, 2021 ยท by Brittany Douglas

This summertime sensory bin was quite the hit with my (almost) four year old son, and he got to take charge from the get-go! All you need, aside from a large tub, or bin are these 4 things:

  1. 4 cups of fine sand (not coarse craft sand)
  2. 1/2 can of shaving cream
  3. 1 box of baking soda
  4. Seashells

Have your child mix the shaving cream, sand, and baking soda together by hand. (Fair warning, we use a larger sized bin because things can get a little messy during the mixing process.) After the three ingredients are well mixed, allow your child to add in the seashells. And tah-dah, easy, summertime fun!

For extra creativity points you can add in some sea creature figurines, boats, trucks, pebbles and even some cookie cutters! However, my little guy was totally content with just the homemade dough and shells!
