The Basics

August 15, 2014

I love easy, comfortable clothing.  In my teens I would purchase clothing just for looks without a thought about how comfortable or uncomfortable material or layers of clothing may be.  I know better now.  It is completely possible and dare I say simple to be frugal, in style, and comfortable!

Not long ago while visiting a nearby mall, I found a wonderful basic black dress at H & M for $17! I couldn’t find it on their website, but asos.com sells a similar one here.  A basic black dress is an absolute must have for every girl! The possibilities are endless and this dress can be worn through every season.  Wear it plain with a cute belt and purse, or dress it up with heels, dress it down with flats, wear some edgy combat boots, whatever your personal flair a basic dress evolves to fit every preference.

A couple looks I like for my basic dress is wearing it with vests or scarfs tied into a vest which, by the way, is my favorite way to wear a scarf in summer! Just fold it in half, tie the two edges together and voila! Arm holes turning your scarf into a vest. Thank you Pinterest!

Then, let’s dress it up with a blazer. I really like switching up my shoes with this dress. Sometimes I like to keep it simple with silver or black and other times spice it up with leopard or a bright color. The sky is the limit!

You all know how my brain works.  I like to see how many outfits I can make with one purchase and then divide the cost.  I do it with food, too. Then I get annoyed at how much restaurants are charging me for a $3 meal!  Anyway, with this basic dress it’s impossible for me to tally up every single combo I could make, so let’s just go with the five combinations I showed here. That brings the dress cost to $3.40 per outfit!  I hope you’re inspired to dress up your basics and get the most out of them for your closet and wallet.
