I look forward to Saturday morning all week. Not because I have the day off or because I can sleep in (do other moms actually get to do this?) but because Saturday is when I get to try my hand at my new favorite hobby: putting together flower arrangements. Like a lot of women, I adore fresh flowers but I'm not satisfied with having them just once in a while. If I don't have a fresh bouquet on my dining room table, I feel like something is missing. Yes, there are weeks that go by without fresh flowers but if I can help it, we always have flowers in the house. They just bring me so much joy! I spend 95% of my day at home; I want to make it as "homey" as possible.
So on Saturdays, I kiss my husband and my kids goodbye, grab a coffee from my favorite local coffee shop and go on the hunt for fresh flowers. In off seasons I often end up at our local grocery stores but with summer so close, several farmers in the area have started to have fresh flowers. Grocery store bouquets are beautiful but there's just something special about the flowers you find at the farmers market or the farmer's stand on the side of the road; I can't recommend them enough!
I will often buy a bouquet or two in whatever colors speak to me that day but I never leave the bouquets as is. A single bouquet has more than enough flowers to split into 2-3 vases so you can make the most of your flowers and spread them all over the house. I also love to play around with color and variety combinations; taking away certain flowers or adding in others. There are so many ways to add your own personal touch to a store-bought bouquet!
The flower hunt is fun but building the bouquet is my favorite part. I have created a list of some of my favorite things to have on hand for assembling arrangements:

While this hobby may not be cheap, bring me extra income as a side hustle, or the end result be long-lasting - it brings me so much joy. It's a creative outlet I have found as a busy mom. It's something that's just for "me." I think as mommas who are constantly giving and giving of ourselves, it's important to find a pastime that's just for us. Yes, the flowers die every week but that just means I get to do it all over again and be creative and come up with a new arrangement. Every time I change out a bouquet, I am reminded that seasons change. In the flower world and in our world, nothing stays the same but when one season ends, something else is starting to bloom just around the corner.
I hope you try your hand at amateur arrangements this summer! This little hobby has brought me so much joy and I know it will do the same for you.
