The Joy Our Love Brings

February 18, 2026 · by Hillary Wheeler

Is there anything sweeter than that first time your child or a child of someone else looks at you and says the words, “I love you” for the first time? It is a joyful moment and a feeling to bottle up forever as a priceless treasure!

I recently had a moment of realization when my 5-year-old told me he never wanted to get married and wanted to live by me when he grows up. As his comment warmed my heart, I realized that what had just transpired between my son and me is all that God has ever desired to transpire between Himself and His creation! His love for us has always been so immense and immeasurable, and He waits with longing to find those who will utter the words, “I love you” with all of their hearts and who desire nothing more than to abandon all else and stay forever near Him. If my earthly son's words touched my heart so deeply, then I can only imagine the impact our love and our expression of desire to be near God has on our heavenly Father's heart. His heart must leap for joy each time His children turn their eyes to Him and daily devote their life and love to Him alone! What a wonderful Father our God is!

James 4:8: "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded". (KJV)

Jeremiah 29:13: "And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart". (KJV)

Psalm 145:18: "The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth". (KJV)
