Top 10 Things To Do This Fall

September 30, 2015

Remember how fall is my favorite season and how I even made this playlist especially for that perfectly beautiful day?

Today in honor of this beautiful season we call fall I’m sharing 10 things for you to do to get the most enjoyment out of next couple of months…and since tomorrow is October, it just seemed like an appropriate idea! Because how often have you searched Google or Pinterest for what to do this fall or fall activities? Every weekend, right? Because surely I’m not the only one who does that! So here you go! No need to go searching for that perfect activity: we’ve got ’em right here for you right now!

1. Visit a new coffee shop

Nothing says fall like a hot cup of coffee, chocolate or cider. And frequenting local establishments is a great way to connect with your community and build relationships with people around you. I know you love your #PSL, but search your current location on Yelp for coffee shops — you might just be surprised at the little hole-in-the-wall shop you never knew existed! (and discover the best cup of java in your life. promise!)

2. Go for a joy ride

Sometimes it’s nice not to have an agenda or a plan. If you live in a rural area, just hop in the car and find a secluded area to drive around and just enjoy the beautiful scenery of colorful leaves and mountains/rolling hills. If you live in the city, go for a walk and drink in the crisp, fall air!

3. Go apple picking

Seriously. If you’ve never done it before, you owe it to yourself to experience that little piece of happiness! Find a local, organic orchard and be completely amazed at how.many.different.kinds of varieties of apples there are in the world! (7,500 according to the Google search I just did. Whoa.)

4. Make an apple pie / apple butter / apple sauce with the apples you picked.

Have you guys ever had homemade apple butter from fresh apples??? Oh.My.Goodness. Heaven. Pure heaven! Find recipes on Pinterest — or even better, in your grandma’s old cookbooks. Your life will never be the same!

5. Go for a hike

There is nothing like a nature jaunt in the fall. You won’t die of sweat + heatstroke (unless you decide to go on an Indian summer day. Don’t do that!) and the sky is usually so clear and the air fresh and clean. You will feel invigorated and so pure!

6. Read the books on your booklist

As the temperatures begin to drop, sometimes it’s nice just to be indoors. Especially on those chilly Saturday mornings — wrap up in a cozy blanket, put the Keurig to good use and immerse yourself in positive, engaging literature!

7. Go for a weekend get-away

When it gets dark outside early it can be a little depressing. Don’t let the coming winter months take your joy though! Plan a budget-friendly get-away weekend with your besties or hubby to break up the long months between summer and the holidays. Stay in a hostel to conserve on funds, go to a local market for groceries instead of spending a fortune in restaurants and then spend your time exploring your choice of location. Many art museums are free and it doesn’t cost anything to explore rich, local heritage through architecture appreciation or to window shop! I’ve found that these kinds of trips always end up being my favorite.

8. Join a club / take a class / volunteer your time

Building relationships with like-minded people is one of the most fulfilling aspects of life. Do you have a passion for charity work? a ministry you feel like God is calling you to? making pottery? serving at homeless shelters? creating artwork? What makes you tick deep inside your heart? Find that passion and cultivate it by spending time with people who have that passion, too.

9. Get organized

Last week Courtney shared a few room organizational tips and Nicole has three steps for closet clean-up and money-saving tips. Fall is a great time to clear out clutter, so use those two previous posts on She’s Intentional to help give you a little boost of encouragement! Take the items you don’t want/need any longer to consignment shops — many places give you cash on-the-spot for items they want! The items they don’t take you can donate to Goodwill, Salvation Army and other charitable thrift stores for a tax right-off!

10. Smile

Here in Northeast Ohio the weather is a perfectly legitimate, acceptable topic for conversation. And it can seriously go on for ages without anyone finding it awkward. With that, however, often comes just a bit of negativity. It’s too hot. It’s too cold. The sun isn’t shining. We haven’t had rain in a month. We’ve had too much rain this month. It’s going to snow next week. Et cetera et cetera et cetera. But darlings! Smile a bit! The weather is going to do what it’s going to do, but your beautiful smile will brighten up the room more than a million days of sunshine could for one person. So be someone’s happiness today and every day. Be the girl your community looks to for encouragement, peaceful words and kind actions.

Happy Fall, Darlings!
