Vintage & Ethereal: The Sanchez Wedding

September 29, 2025 · by Andrea Long

Timeless weddings are a favorite around here. When we spotted Makayla and Abraham's wedding photos, we fell in love with the sweet, romantic vibe. What an honor to chat with this bride and feature her fairytale wedding! Welcome, Makayla!

DJ: How would you describe your wedding decor, theme, and vibe?

MS: For our wedding we really wanted something very simple, so we chose white, gold, different shades of light pink, and some green. I love antique candle stick holders and bust vases, so we incorporated those as well. As for the vibe or the theme, I would say it was kind of like a vintage ethereal theme.

DJ: What are some of your favorite special memories of your wedding day?

MS: One of my favorite memories of my wedding day was having lunch in the bridal suite of the venue with my bridesmaids and my mother and grandma. We played some fun Disney songs and took turns singing them while we got ready. It was a blast! Another really good and very special part of our big day that I will always remember was our unity ceremony. We decided to take communion, and it was one of the most sacred moments. The presence of the Lord was so sweet.

DJ: Were there any funny moments or things that didn't go according to plan?

MS: Here are 2 things that didn’t exactly go to plan….

•The first thing that didn’t go to plan: my sweet granny actually put together my wedding dress and veil. We bought my lovely dress at a wedding dress boutique here in Tulsa, OK, but it didn’t have a top to it at all.. so everything you see from the bust up- she made it all.. by hand. However, she accidentally had sewed the clip on the veil that was to be put into my hair the wrong way.. and so, right before I was headed down that aisle, my mother and one of my bridesmaids noticed (it was backwards). So they ripped it off the veil and quickly hand sewed it back to the right side.. thankfully they knew how to sew!

•The second thing: my mom had ordered the most beautiful glasses to use to drink out of during our reception. They were pink and sparkly and were perfect for the tables… They were in their box, sitting in the kitchen. However, from the stress of the day and everything going on…. the beautiful pink glasses that were supposed to go out, never got put out. My lovely and thoughtful dad went to Walmart and bought some good ole red solo cups… just perfect for the aesthetic :/

DJ: How did you find the perfect wedding dress?

MS: I found my perfect dress at the cutest place here in Tulsa called Ellis Bridal. It was the second or third dress I tried on. My sister and one of my bridesmaids that went with me actually found it and wanted me to try it on. It was the one!

DJ: Do you have any advice for future brides?

MS: A piece of advice for future brides is to just have fun! I was so stressed out the weeks leading up to our wedding because I wanted it to be absolutely perfect, and it was.. but some things may not go like you planned it out in your head. This season is all about you, the man you're going to marry, and the beautiful covenant you will be making with each other and God. Embrace the things that may go wrong and try to go with the flow. However, this was so hard for me… especially seeing those red solo cups on the tables 😭. My advice is just to have fun! It’s your day!

DJ: Is there anything else in particular that you'd like to share about your wedding?

MS: I am going to list a few things we decided to do on our wedding day. These were things I’ve always wanted at my wedding and really made the day more special! I encourage you to do whatever it is you want to do at your wedding!

  • We had a jazz band come and play during our reception. It was actually my violin teacher’s band, and they were amazingly talented! They played all my favorite songs and really made the reception such a memorable night.
  • We had the cutest coffee trailer come and park at our venue for the reception. All of the wedding guests loved the idea and loved getting to sip iced or hot coffees while they visited with each other. It was perfect! Highly recommend getting a coffee bar, coffee trailer, or coffee truck to come to your reception! We also thought about doing an ice cream truck.. that would be a great idea, too, especially in the summer.. So fun!

DJ: Who was your photographer?

MS: We had the privilege of having our wedding photos shot by George Tshuma. His photography business is called Infallible Proofs Photography. He was amazing and made the photoshoots so fun and effortless! Highly recommend having him take photos on your wedding day.
