Firmly Rooted Faith

August 05, 2014

Welcome to our first edition of our Special Featured Interviews series. I am so excited to introduce our first interviewee to you today. When Charity Jewell and I were discussing plans for She’s Intentional, we wanted to implement something that would allow you, the reader, to feel connected not only to us, but also to other women in our circle who are really passionate and intent about their goals, dreams, and God’s plans for their lives.

So, meet Jessica Wyatt! I’m sure you recognize this lovely young woman as a Dainty Jewell’s model. Her bright, cheerful smile shines through every photo she is in, and it is obvious by her sparkling eyes that she has a deep love and passion for life. I have personally only met Jessica a handful of times and admittedly do not know her well, but every time I have been with her, I have admired her sweet, gentle spirit and genuine laughter.

In addition to sharing a love for strong espresso and list-making, I discovered that Jessica is an avid reader. We shared some of our favorite devotional/inspirational books with each other and were delighted when many of them coincided. We both highly recommend the following books to you for your own study and leisure time: “When God Writes Your Love Story”, “When Ye Pray”, “Be All You Can Be”, A Tale of Three Kings.”

Without further ado, I present to you Jessica Wyatt:

She’s Intentional: Tell me a little bit about yourself. I know I sent you a few questions over email, but I’m really excited to talk with you over the phone. It adds a lot just to hear a voice behind the words.

Jessica Wyatt: I did write a lot down, and really prayed about this interview too. I am so honored to have this opportunity to speak my heart in this way. I’m 21 years old, live in Indiana, I’m a Starbucks/coffee addict, I work in a hospital, and am just completing college. I love to travel and I play the piano.

SI: I know it’s a broad question, but tell me about your life goals and ambitions.

JW: I believe God has called me to be a missionary; more specifically a missionary nurse in Uganda. I have been on missionary trips to Germany, Israel, and South Africa. They have really impacted my life in many ways because it reminds us that we should be Christ-like. When we show people care, it gives them hope that other people realize and understand where they are. As Christians, we often we feel inadequate; but when we share the testimonies of our struggles, it encourages us and others who are going through similar situations. I am also in the process of completing Hope Corps classes and that has been very instrumental in shaping my desire to be a missionary.

SI: I really love your insight on that. Sometimes it’s hard to separate ourselves from the life we live here and what other people perceive us to be.

JW: You’re right. What’s on the outside doesn’t tell the story of the inside. You may see someone who’s a model, but inside the person truly has a servant’s heart. People see a pretty face, a pretty smile. But they have no idea what you’ve been through in life. Our struggles are a gift, they’re a blessing. We must dispose of the defeated mindset, focus on how far we’ve come. When I went to Africa, it was like everything I had been doing in my life up to that point finally had a purpose. When a lady’s faith is firmly rooted in God, it cannot be defeated.

SI: What would you say to young woman who has a desire to do the will of God? Someone who really has a wants to live a life pleasing to God and serve Him?

Never doubt what God has for you. He has a specific plans for your life. He won’t abandon you. Don’t think that your ministry and dreams won’t happen. If you really desire to be in His will, he will merge His desires into your heart and then bring those desires to pass.

SI: Do you have favorite scriptures that really speak to you? What helps you to feel peace when life seems to be uncertain?

JW: Psalm 27:1, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” and also Psalm 121:1-2, “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” They really speak to me in times of fear and just to remind me to trust in God at all times.
