Keeping Trends Classy

January 09, 2015

I love the aztec trend right now, but I make a rule to not get so caught-up in a trend that once it’s over my wardrobe is full of outdated pieces.

I was thrilled when I found this classy black-on-black, aztec-print jacket on sale at Ross for $10. Ross is a southern store, so for you northern ladies, it’s equivalent to TJ Maxx and Marshall’s.

Here in Florida, I’m able to wear this lightweight jacket with just a tank top under because it’s 82 degrees in January. I miss the colder weather of the north, and you lucky ladies in the colder climates could wear a jacket like this with a turtleneck or long-sleeved top under it for extra warmth.

I paired the jacket with a gold skirt from Macy’s I received as a Christmas gift this year, a black sequin tank top and Forever 21 heels. These shoes were actually a Christmas gift from my husband for our first married Christmas six years ago. He did well!

Am I the only one that coordinates my hairstyle with my outfit? Surely not! The jacket reminded me of the 1920’s flapper, so I did my hair in one of my favorite and easiest styles. I found it on Pinterest from Missie Sue and the hair-do is called the Tuck and Cover.

The wonderful thing about a jacket like this is that it’s simple and versatile, yet it has beautiful details. The fringe on the arms, the velvet black-on-black pattern and the uneven length made me give it a second look. And of course the $9.99 price tag didn’t hurt it’s chances of making it into my closet either.
