The woman with the lost coin that swept her entire house looking for it.
The prodigal son who returned home.
The shepherd that left the 99 to find the lost one.
Over and over again, the Bible emphasizes just how important you are to God.Your worth is absolutely invaluable to Him. Jesus knows the number of hairs upon your head, the minute troubles you worry about, and the deepest desires of your heart. He created you from the start, designed the shape of your nose, chose the perfect color of your hair, and even programmed your innate personality; and yet, we sometimes forget just how special we are.
I was talking to my little sister and asking her about school when she told me “Sis, I wish I wasn’t a nobody.” After some questions, I gathered that she just really wanted to be a part of the “cool crowd,” and as a fourth grader at one time myself, I completely remember that feeling!
The desire to to fit in is so prevalent, and not just in elementary-aged kids, but it persists even further in our lives. We all want to be accepted. I quickly made sure to remind my sister that she is a pretty cool girl already and that she is most definitely not a nobody!
Jesus thought you were worthy of his redemption, his love, and precious salvation. He bled and died so that you could live a fulfilling life that reflects Him and His love. That is not a task he would give out lightly to a “nobody.”
This led me to think of how easily we set aside all that we know that is true of God’s love:
We know that he loves us completely, and yet we cannot come to terms to love ourselves.
We know that he died on the cross for our sins, and we beat ourselves up for our own mistakes long after they’ve happened.
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
{Ephesians 2:4-5 KJV}
Jesus tells us time and time again whether it be through a song, through the reading of our bible, or straight from your pastors’ mouth, just how much He loves us. He reaches for us when we feel unreachable, and loves us when we feel unlovable. We are of such great value to Him, that he thinks it appropriate to sweep the entire house to find us when we are lost, to celebrate when a lost son returns home, and to leave the ninety-nine to find us and bring us back to the flock.
