I first discovered my love of Açaí Bowls last year when a friend and I ordered them at a little breakfast place in downtown Seattle.
I was already a smoothie fan (I drink a protein smoothie for breakfast or lunch almost every day), but these refreshing bowls quickly became my go-to. I even started grabbing them in the airport when I traveled.
Açaí Bowls are such a great spring and summer treat, and we have several places in Seattle that specialize in them. It costs about $10 to get a bowl, so I thought I could do my budget a favor and make them at home.
And it's a good thing I did!
Spring has arrived, and we're all inside!
If you're like me, you might be looking for a way to bring that spring feeling inside. This is one way you can do it! Plus, it's a fun recipe for the kids to help make (and eat!) if you're looking for things to do.
So grab your blender or Ninja, and let's get started!
It all starts with these frozen açaí packets. You can find them with the frozen fruit at your grocery store.
Break it up and toss it in the blender.
Next add about 6-8 oz. of liquid. I use almond milk, but you can use juice, water, milk, etc.
Then you can get creative and add the fruit!
I always add half a fresh banana (I use the rest later). Add some frozen strawberries and blueberries. Sometimes I add frozen mango or pineapple.
Play around with it and find the flavors you like the best.
Blend until it's smooth. It should be thick enough to eat with a spoon!
When it's blended, pour it into a bowl and top with fresh fruit, something crunchy, and something creamy.
I like to top mine with the other half of the fresh banana, granola, and almond butter.
You can also use fresh strawberries, blueberries, sliced almonds, coconut, peanut butter, honey ...
Then grab a spoon and dig in!
It really is like spring and summer in a bowl!
