A Seat for the Soul: Springtime Hospitality

April 10, 2026 · by Heidi Stewart

I’ll be the first to admit: aiming to be the hostess with the mostest can stress a gal out! Especially if decorating or creativity isn’t your strong suit. Below are some simple tips and recipe ideas for spring hosting, while keeping the focus on enjoying each others’ company. Whether this is another family joining yours for dinner or a girls’ night– it’s good to slow down and build community.

Prepping Your House

The 10-Minute Tidy: Focus only on the "high impact" areas: the entryway, the guest bathroom (ensure fresh towels and a full soap dispenser), places to sit in the living room and the kitchen counters.

The "Self-Serve" Station: Set up a drink station where guests can help themselves. This can be in drink dispensers or as simple as setting out a gallon of sweet tea and lemonade. It takes the pressure off you as the hostess and makes guests feel more "at home."

Decorations

There are no rules that say you have to decorate your table for each season. You can have the same centerpieces and disposable napkins as you always do. But if you enjoy creating a theme night or dressing it up a bit for some gal pals– here are some simple ways to do it.

Spring Centerpiece: Instead of buying expensive bouquets, use clear glass jars (recycled jelly or mason jars) and fill them with greenery from your yard or inexpensive grocery store tulips.

Bringing in Linens: If you don't have a spring tablecloth, use a simple white sheet or a length of burlap as a runner. Add a few sprigs of dried lavender or rosemary tucked into folded napkins (yes, they can be paper napkins!)

Natural Elements: Use lemons or limes in a wooden bowl as a centerpiece. They add a pop of bright "spring" color and can be used for cooking or tea after the guests leave.

The Menu

The menu for a spring gathering should feel lighter than the heavy roasts and hearty dishes of winter. Below are some easy ideas that are budget and beginner-chef friendly!

*Tip: Many of these items can be made ahead of time for less work on the day of!

Chicken Salad: Use rotisserie chicken or canned chicken, grapes, celery, and a light Greek yogurt/mayo dressing. You can even do cottage cheese with greek yogurt for a yummy, high-protein option.

Serve with buttery croissants and/or bell pepper wedges for a lower-carb option.

A Classic Quiche: We love this one from Pinch of Yum: https://pinchofyum.com/spring-quiche or this brunch quiche from Anyssa Hessler: https://daintyjewells.com/blog...

Serve with: Some mixed baby greens with lemon vinaigrette.

Sheet-Pan Lemon Herb Salmon (or Chicken) : Lay salmon fillets (or thin-cut chicken breasts) on a sheet pan surrounded by halved baby potatoes. Drizzle everything with olive oil, minced garlic, and plenty of fresh dill and lemon slices. Roast at 400°F until the edges of the potatoes are crisp. The lemon slices caramelize in the oven and create a built-in sauce.

Note: if you’re using salmon, roast the potatoes first for about 5-10 minutes, then add the salmon so that it does’t overcook.

Seasonal Sheet Pan Veggies: Toss asparagus, baby carrots, and radishes in olive oil, lemon zest, and salt. Roast at 400°F (200°C) until tender. It’s beautiful, colorful, and requires almost no cleanup.

Strawberry & Spinach Salad: We can’t leave this one out; she’s a classic! Fresh baby spinach topped with sliced strawberries and thinly sliced red onion slivers. Add toasted pecans or walnuts, candied cranberries, feta cheese, and a balsamic or poppyseed dressing to drizzle over the top just before serving.

Signature Spring Spritzer: Mix sparkling water with a splash of cranberry juice and float fresh cucumber slices or strawberries. It looks fancy in a glass pitcher or drink dispenser if you have one!

Dessert: An easy but perfect strawberry cake with cream cheese icing, like this one from Ashton Dorow: https://daintyjewells.com/blog...

Final Note

People will forget what was on the menu, if something was overcooked or if the baseboards weren’t polished, but they will never forget how they felt in your home. A little bit of "lived-in" mess shows that your home is a place of real life and real grace.
