Christmas, Christmas time is here.
The reds and greens displayed in every store, the nativity scenes gracing every yard, and the timeless carols playing in the background of every coffee shop serve to remind me of the speedy approach of my favorite holiday.
Yet as a first semester college student, I have experienced my first year of being away from home during those joyous and excitement-filled weeks leading up to Christmas. Shopping with my family for Christmas presents, enjoying hot chocolate around the Christmas tree and the fireplace, and sharing in memories of the days when we were younger and awed by the magic of it all are things that I certainly find myself missing.
So, being away from the, what I would deem “preliminary celebrations” of Christmas with my family, I have endeavored to find ways to celebrate the season on my own, and what better way to do that than with fashion.
Sweaters are a staple for Christmas, I don’t think anyone would argue that, but, I daresay that not all Christmas sweaters have to be “Ugly Christmas Sweater Party” ready. I recently found the most adorable holiday-themed sweater from The Loft in a wonderful, neutral gray which will easily blend into any color scheme, as well being versatile enough to pair with a blazer in an effort to make the outfit a bit more dressy.
I chose a button-up from Gap in plaid, another staple of the season, to contrast the pattern in the sweater as well as to add a pop of color.
I completed the look with a black tulle skirt from Dillard’s , black tights, one of my favorite pairs of black booties by Gianni Bini, and a backpack from Herschel because…well, finals week decided not to join in the holiday cheer.
This outfit, though not a replacement for the quality time spent with family whom I love so very much, did boost my mood from homesick to festive.
So students and non-students alike, celebrate the season with family and friends, celebrate it with joy, and maybe, celebrate it with that an absolutely perfect Christmas sweater!
