Getting Ahold of Jesus

February 17, 2021 · by Kimberly Pearson

Have you ever had a need that no one else was aware of?

Join the club! Chances are that every single person that you interact with daily is in the same boat as you. (Yes, even the social media influencers that seem to have it all together in their perfectly styled and themed Instagram posts.)

We may at times feel too powerless, embarrassed, or ashamed to make our needs known to those around us, so we instead suffer quietly. Occasionally, we may think that our requests or needs are too insignificant to bring up. God does have the rest of the world to tend to, right?

Wrong.

God cares for you more than you will ever know! He cares about the small details and worries that you have, and He is waiting on the sidelines for you to reach out to Him to ask for help. Like any parent, Jesus wants to step in and be able to help you and provide for you.

1 John 5:14 lets us know that we should have a confidence in God that He hears our every prayer. (Yes, even the quiet prayers that you whisper to yourself.)

"And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us" (1 John 5:14).

Prayer is the most effective way of getting God's attention and changing your situation. God desires to hear from you. He wants you to ask Him to help you.

Faith leads to action, which causes a reaction.

When we have faith in God and pray (our action), God hears us and has no option but to step in and do a work (His reaction). Mark 11:24 tells us that if we believe that God can do what we ask, He will!

"Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them" (Mark 11:24).

When things seem dire and you are at the end of your rope, just hold on and seek God's help and intervention. A great example of a woman in the Bible that (literally) got ahold of God can be found in Mark 5:25-34. The woman with the issue of blood spent twelve years searching for a cure to her ailment. She sought out the best treatments that the medical world could offer, she spent all that she had, and yet her situation grew worse still.

Mark 5:27-29: When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

If this is you, dear reader, I encourage you to reach out and grab ahold of Jesus' garment today in prayer. If you have a situation you are dealing with and you have googled it all, bought it all, searched it all, and are still left empty, try Jesus! He is still able, and wanting, to help you and to make you whole today!
