Weddings are something to be celebrated, but a God-centered marriage and wedding is worthy of extra honor. We are delighted to feature the Baumeister's wedding today on the blog. Giahna, thank you for sharing your special day with us!
SI: How would you describe your wedding decor/theme/vibe?
GB: As soon as the planning committee hit the drawing board, I knew I wanted our wedding to portray a timeless, traditional, and classy scene with, of course, some drama throughout! I absolutely wanted the tradition of weddings through the ages to be prevalent in my own wedding: something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.
“Something old” was beautifully captured through our ceremony. While we committed ourselves to each other at the altar that has been a generational altar in my family, the church my grandfather built, and the same altar my parents were married.
My favorite “something new” was of course my dress! The dress that made me feel like a princess, the dress of my dreams; it couldn’t have been more perfect for me!
The essence of the phrase “something borrowed” came through my veil, as it was my mom’s veil from her wedding day in 1991.
“Something blue” was portrayed through our reception decor, giving the perfect touch of color while still keeping the elegance and classic vibe.
SI: What are some of your favorite or special memories of your wedding day?
GB: For me personally there was a song we had sang; it’s a song that I could never grow tired of. At our ceremony “He’s been faithful” was sang by my cousin, Drew; you could feel God's presence so strongly and the witnesses all across the sanctuary that related to that song. That moment was unforgettable and powerful!
SI: Were there any funny moments or things that didn't go according to plan?
GB: Surprisingly, nothing major went wrong, or at least nothing that I am aware of (thank God for an amazing wedding coordinator!).
Whenever it came time for our send off from the ceremony, my dress DID NOT fit in our getaway car! I took my veil off, my shoes off, and had multiple people stuffing every inch of my dress into that sports car! It looked like Gavin was driving with a bunch of fluff in his passenger seat because my head was no where to be found! The whole drive to the reception people were staring and honking as they drove by! We laughed so hard over that moment!
Another moment that had me cracking up was during our photos, IT WAS FREEZING… we were tired and hungry! The last set of photos was in a field of grass, and it was gorgeous! So I took my heels off and went barefoot. Muddy, wet, and cold, you could say our attitudes were on the line! But I laughed so hard over all of us dressed to the nines, stomping through the mud, but you would never know by the photos!
SI: Do you have any advice for future brides?
GB: Slow down, take it in, enjoy every moment. I know everyone says this, but you don’t realize how true it is until you’re in those shoes. I had heard it a hundred times before the day and on the day, but if I could go back I would make myself take in every single second with all my loved ones, family and friends. Don’t rush anything; it’ll go by way too fast on its own!
SI: Who was your photographer?
GB: THE BEST PHOTOGRAPHER! Brandie did our engagement photos and our wedding photos and I’m convinced no one could have captured our day more perfectly! https://www.brandiemarquez.com/
